A Twelve Hour Marathon At The PGA Memorial

Author: Mark Barnes

Could it possibly be a record that has been set, at the PGAs Memorial this weekend? Twelve hours long to complete a round of golf, this is what the players had to endure during the second round at this weekends event.

There was a six-hour rain delay, that put a complete halt to the action, and this was not something the players are using too. Hour, two, sometime three hours tops is considered the norm for a rain delay. Six hours however had these players feeling rather rusty by the time they were able to resume play again.

By the time the rain had stopped Carl Pettersson, did finish his round for the day and found himself at the top of the leader board. This was of course after five birdies in five hours, and a milkshake in the clubhouse during the stoppage.

To Carl Peterson this could be considered a very good day, having bogey-free rounds generally are. With a 5- under 67 for the day, most of the pack could not even finish their round and he finds himself alone at the top with a two-stroke lead.

Many of the golfers that did manage to finish their rounds looked completely exhausted, and while PGA star Chris Demarco did indeed finish, by the time he got to the fence where the fans were waiting for autographs, he did what he could in the way of appeasing the fans, then finally ran out of steam and said Ive been out here for twelve hours people.
